TRACK CONTAMINATION DETECTION SYSTEM

The LPS Track Contamination Detection System (TCDS) utilizes pre-existing track circuits in the network to monitor demanding areas around the clock.

Benefits

Full Network Coverage

Each 500-1000m section of the network can be a sensor to indicate what condition the rail is in with each passing train.

Targeted Cleaning

When a section is not optimal, a treatment can be sent for cleaning. Making treatments efficient and effective.

Post Clean Evaluation

After cleaning, it can be used to check how well the section was treated by that specific solution.

Keeping journeys on track

The TCDS is created by attaching a Track Contamination Device to multiple track circuits, turning each section of rail into a sensor. The sensors calculate the level of contamination by measuring the short-circuiting of the signalling systems. This provides a top level, real-time estimate of the rail contamination.

This system allows us to create a heatmap with insights into problematic network areas that rail operators can use to tailor cleaning operations to maximise efficiency of the LPS LaserTrain and other treatments. Track Contamination Devices are easy to install and long lasting, ensuring they provide insights for years to come.

This product is at prototype stage TRL 6-7. Due to the variation in track circuits that pre-exist in the field, and the scale of the required operation, we offer a selection of invasive and non-invasive options to choose from. Please contact us for more details.
