LASERTRAIN

The LaserTrain is a smart system that uses laser technology to eliminate friction loss and provide ideal Coefficient of Friction (COF) at speeds up to 100kmh.
It uses laser ablation to ‘vaporize’ the contamination layer without damage to the track.  A 24-hour clean keeps the track free from most severe slip-slide. The result: less maintenance, better punctuality and happier passengers! This technique also works to clear rust, grease and waste from the tracks.

How it works

The LaserTrain's control system combines all hardware and software for an easy autonomous clean. By using GIS data, the system can switch automatically between two modes without an operator; Transport Mode is when the LTC is raised to avoid hitting any rail obstacles, and Cleaning Mode is when it is low to the railhead for cleaning.

One pass over of the laser can clear contamination without track damage, allowing for a repeatable process. To prevent lasering on the same spot, it will shut off at speeds under 2mph. Various cleaning speeds are available to choose from:
25 mph/40 kph
45 mph/70 kph
60 mph/100 kph

The LaserTrain technology can either be built into existing train wagons or installed onto a separate wagon. Both get pulled by locomotives while the laser cleans the tracks.

GIS Data and Client Dashboard

We provide all of our partners with a live dashboard to help keep track of the LaserTrain. From this we can pull a full report for the performance period showing detailed analysis, including factors such as the live position of the train, where the train has been, slip slide results, a rain tracker and miles cleaned.
